Welcome to ACTIVE FOR PEACE! Newsletter! This goes every month to ACTIVE FOR PEACE! members and supporters. This way we can share stories, announce upcoming events and jump into current debates. It is showing how youth of all ages are or can become active and work effectively for peace. Enjoy!

 

 

A SEASON FOR TRAVEL

If you never made the connection between peace and travel, now it is the time to do it! According to Statistics Norway 720.000 Norwegians traveled abroad in 2007 and only in the first quarter of 2008 90.000 young people aged 16 - 24 travelled abroad. YOUTH IN ACTION

 

PLAN International, is one of the oldest and largest development organisations in the world. With more than 70 years of experience PLAN supports more then 1.500.000 children around the world. Not only are they the beneficiaries but also they have a strong voice in sending messages to leaders about their worries and their solutions. EVENTS/ TRAININGS
  • United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the Young Agenda 21 Foundation of Norway was hosting the 2008 Tunza International Children’s Conference on the Environment which brings together 1,000 people (700 children and 300 chaperones), between 10 and 14 years, from over 100 countries. The conference was held from 17 to 21 June 2008 in Stavanger, Norway. For more information click here.

  • There is an opportunity for you to express your opinions through visual communication! 28 May 2008: Plan has launched Shoot Nations 2008 – the free global youth photography competition on climate change that is open to anyone aged 11-24 from anywhere in the world. Tourism Concern has played a crucial role in promoting forms of tourism that provide meaningful benefits to people in destination communities.  Equally important has been our role  exposing and campaigning against tourism's worst human rights abuses. GET INVOLVED! THINK ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO TRAVEL TO BURMA

We all have heard about the very uppsetting situation that is happening in Burma. While people from all over the world mobilized to help victims of natural disasters, the dictatorial authorities have forbidden almost all the foreign assistance. People all over the world are asked to take a stand. Tourism is also a way! Tourism is a vital source of income for the Government of Burma but also it might help some locals by increasing their life standards. Some require to boycott the tourism industry in order not to further support the regime, some urge to think twice. Read more…and more
